I think a lot of middle-class families share this feeling. As income rises, it’s common to become more aware of taxes because you’re also dealing with higher healthcare costs, insurance premiums, childcare, housing expenses, and inflation. Even if your take-home pay increases, it may not feel like you’re getting much further ahead.
At the same time, it’s important to distinguish between legal tax planning and tax avoidance. Large corporations often have access to specialized advisors, international operations, and incentives written into the tax code that aren’t available to most households. That can create a perception of unfairness, even when they’re operating within the law.
In my view, a better system would prioritize simplicity, transparency, and consistency. Reducing unnecessary complexity, closing loopholes that create unequal advantages, and making it easier for individuals and small businesses to understand their obligations could improve confidence in the system while still generating the revenue needed to fund essential public services.
